CTB Approves Parkway Extension Funding
CTB Approves Parkway Extension Funding
SPRINGFIELD, VA – On April 15, the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) approved the final two phases of the Fairfax County Parkway Extension through the Engineering Proving Ground using stimulus funding. In a bi-partisan effort by representatives of the area, Delegate Dave Albo, Delegate Vivian Watts and Senator George Barker petitioned the Governor, the Secretary of Transportation and the CTB to fully fund the Parkway extension. Their petition was successful.
The federal government approved the move of 8,000-12,000 army jobs in 2005 to be housed between Rolling Road and Backlick Road at the Fort Belvoir Engineering Proving Grounds. Their approval did not include funding for the surrounding roads to ensure the flow of traffic was minimally affected.
While the first two phases had been previously funded and are currently under construction, most citizens do not know that phases III and IV were without funding. Essentially, phases III and IV provide the entrance and exit ramps at each end of the parkway project. The $60.1 million for the last half of the project are now also covered.
All construction and further funding information can be found at Delegate Dave Albo’s website, www.davealbo.com, or on Virginia’s Department of Transportation website.
